Winnie Foster is a sheltered 10 year old girl living in the late 1880's. One day she sees a young boy, Jesse Tuck, drinking from a spring in her family's wood. When Winnie tries to take a drink, Jesse stops her and reveals his family's dark secret. Winnie is then faced with the option to change her fate.

If the prologue or epilogue were left out the story would be very different. Readers could still understand the story without the prologue, but it does foreshadow later events in the story. If the epilogue were left out, the story would leave the reader hanging and allow them to make their own predictions on what happened in the future. The epilogue gives the readers a sense of finality.
I felt like the epilogue really set up the story and gave us an idea of what it was going to be about. The prologue really helps to put closure to the story. I feel that a lot of readers would have been upset if this part was left out. The prologue gave us an ending, but still let us use our imagination to fill in the time in between. Both of these were critical to the book and would have really changed it if they would have been left out.
I think this is a good question because it allows the reader to really concentrate on the story and to determine if anything would have been different if the prologue or epilogue would have been left out.
